Mac OS X offers the best audio latency speeds of any platform, according to a new report from John Hopkins University’s Peabody Institute, noted by Macworld UK. Audio latency is the minimum time that’s required to store a sample from an audio interface into application memory, and then copying that sample to the audio interface output. Why this is significant and what benefits the faster speed provides is not discussed. [Update (08:42): Macworld UK has added a brief explanation of audio latency to the article.]
