An interesting article at TheStandard discusses severe lag in the improvement of computer displays, noting that while processor performance tends to double every 18 months, display quality has been improving by just eight percent a year. Indeed, today’s monitors offer similar resolutions as their five-year old predecessors, and physical size has remained stangnant at around 20-inches for more than a decade. Intel, however, recently demonstrated a 22-inch display that features a 9.2 megapixel resolution (Apple’s Cinema Display has a resolution of 1.6 megapixels), which it sees as the future of display technology.
