DataProtector is a modern data security package that brings data
access protection and data validation functions to the 4th Dimension
environment in the form of a standard 4D plug-in. Available on both
Macintosh and Windows platforms, it uses industry standards to
provide both a one-way hash function and a public key digital
signature for text and string values. DataProtector’s one-way hash
function can be used to provide context specific password features
such as requiring management validation for large orders or checks;
password verification for access to sensitive data; and any other
function where a password can be stored within a data file.
DataProtector’s digital signature function can be used to verify that
a particular piece of data was created by the person who claims to
have created it. It also verifies that the data has not been modified
since it was created. Digital signatures are especially useful for
communications between remote 4D systems.

DataProtector 1.0 is written by Michael Erikson of Automated
Solutions Group (http://www. asgsoft.com), which has been the
distributor as well. Effective June 1, 1999, Highwinds Trading
Company is the new distributor. All DataProtector licenses are
transferred to Highwinds Trading Company. Automated Solutions Group
will no longer be reselling DataProtector but will continue to
support customers to whom it sold version 1.0. Sales and Support
after June 1, 1999 will be handled by Highwinds Trading Company.
