Neon Software announces support for MacOS 8.5 SNMP

LAFAYETTE, CA – October 22nd, 1998 – Neon Software today announced that its
LANsurveyor product is fully compatible with the recently released MacOS
8.5 Simple Network Managment Protocol (SNMP) capabilities. LANsurveyor is
Neon Software’s MacOS network mapping, monitoring, and reporting
application. With the release of MacOS 8.5, Apple Computer adds an
industry-standard SNMP agent to MacOS-compatible computers.

“We originally introduced SNMP queries into LANsurveyor to support Apple’s
original MacSNMP product”, said Laurie Abrams, Director of Sales at Neon
Software. “Since Apple’s Open Transport networking architecture obsoleted
MacSNMP, we’ve been waiting for Apple to provide an updated SNMP agent for
the MacOS.”

LANsurveyor can gather detailed information about system software,
hardware, TCP/IP connections, and AppleTalk connections. MacOS 8.5 users
gain the additional ability to query for SNMP data. LANsurveyor gathers
this information in real-time via use of its map interface or by using SNMP
to query groups of nodes across a network and forming comprehensive
spreadsheet-style reports. For example, network managers can use
LANsurveyor’s SNMP capabilities to create software inventory reports or a
report of how much disk space is in use for all MacOS nodes across their
network.

Neon Software develops intelligent software products that troubleshoot,
manage, and improve computer network design and operation. Neon Software’s
series of network management products include LANsurveyor, a MacOS network
mapping application, NetMinder Ethernet and NetMinder LocalTalk,
software-only protocol analyzers; CyberGauge, an Internet bandwidth
management application and RouterCheck, a router management application.
