METROWERKS SHIPS CODEWARRIOR FOR PALMPILOT
RELEASE 3 FOR DEVELOPING PALM OS APPLICATIONS

New Features and Important Updates Highlight New Product Release

AUSTIN, Texas -Aug. 4, 1997- Metrowerks Inc. (NASDAQ: MTWKF, TSE/ME:MWK),
one of the world’s leading providers of software development tools, today
announced they are shipping this week CodeWarrior for PalmPilot Release 3,
an integrated suite of tools for both the Mac OS and Windows 95/NT. With
new features and important updates, programmers will find it easier than
ever to develop applications for the PalmPilot products from 3Com
Corporation.

CodeWarrior for PalmPilot Release 3 comes with the highly anticipated final
update to the PalmPilot SDK (Software Development Kit), Version 2. This
update supports all the new enhancements to Palm OS 2.0, including TCP/IP
networking and new user interface controls. There are complete and
separate PalmPilot SDKs for Mac OS and Windows, each including a
comprehensive tutorial, numerous examples, and all the interface and
library files needed to create Palm OS applications.

“We’ve had a tremendous number of requests for Windows tools from the
rapidly growing development community,” said Byron Connell, director of
product marketing for Palm Computing, the division of 3Com that designs and
markets PalmPilot. “As the PalmPilot platform continues to expand further
into the enterprise, products like CodeWarrior will facilitate the
development of innovative and important corporate solutions.”

For the Windows developer, CodeWarrior for PalmPilot Release 3 includes
final releases of the Integrated Development Environment (IDE), debugger,
and compilers and linkers. It also features an updated Constructor for
PalmPilot. The Constructor now supports the creation of string lists, a
resource that’s useful for things such as names of menu commands or default
values for text fields in a form. The Constructor allows programmers to
design graphical user interfaces simply by selecting objects from a palette
and placing them where they should appear in the final Palm OS application.
. “We think our customers are going to be very pleased with the upgrades
we’ve made with CodeWarrior for PalmPilot Release 3,” said Jean Belanger,
chairman and chief executive officer of Metrowerks, “particularly the
improvements to the Windows version of Constructor for PalmPilot.”

The debugger features remote source-level debugging for Palm OS
applications and source-level debugging for PalmPilot simulated
applications on the Mac.

“3Com has a very hot product with the PalmPilot,” Belanger said. “We’re
very pleased that CodeWarrior for PalmPilot will expand its functionality
and help create new markets for this remarkable connected organizer.”
