Kickstarter a Carbon Fiber Case for Your MacBook Air...
There's something your MacBook Air or Pro probably doesn't have, and that's a carbon fiber case. That's because I haven't seen one on the market, but an enterprising young man from Dallas named Chetan Raj wants to change that. He's launched a Kickstarter project for carbon fiber cases that are custom made for Apple's full range of laptops. On the outside the case is shiny, reflective carbon fiber, and on the inside it will be held snugly in place by a foam lining that also serves to distribute the force of any impact evenly across your laptop. Mr. Raj needs funding to make it happen, however, so check out the video below and consider backing the project! There's also a ton of information on the project's Kickstarter page.

The company announced the release on its blog, and once against stressed that this is a native Mac client that is fully compatible with the PC version. Buying either the Windows or Mac version gives you access to the other, and the Mac version is a digital download only. Thursday's Mac release includes all of the major updates EA has released since the PC version hit the streets in February. Regaining Your Mac’s Lost Audio Alerts

There's a good chance those alert sounds are just backed up waiting to come out, and while Apple needs to release a fix for the problem, the workaround is drop dead simple.

Sudo Flaw Opens Potential Security Risk for OS X,...
A security flaw in the command line tool sudo in OS X 10.7 and higher, as well as some Linux distributions, could give unauthorized root access to user's computers. The flaw was reported by Metasploit, a company that specializes in finding security issues and building utilities to point them out, but the steps needed to exploit this particular issue make it unlikely most Mac users will become victims before a patch is available.
The Mac Observer Spin:
Apple isn't the fastest at patching security flaws, or even publicly acknowledging them. The company has known about this one for at least five months and hasn't yet released a fix. The upside for Mac users is that the requirements to take advantage of the flaw are so specific that most people won't be susceptible while we wait for Apple to get their security patch out.

T-Mobile Schedule Blackout Hints at iPhone 5S...
T-Mobile has apparently blocked employee vacations between September 20 and September 22, which would coincide nicely with the expected release of the iPhone 5's successor. Apple will be hosting a special iPhone-related media event on September 10, and typically new models ship about a week later, or in this case, September 20.
The Mac Observer Spin:
Apple hasn't confirmed new iPhones are coming, or that it is hosting a September launch event. Still, with the number of images and videos of the iPhone 5S and iPhone 5C that have hit the Internet most of these are feeling like rumors only in name. Rumors of T-Mobile's employee blackout dates fit, too, so there's a pretty good chance people will be lining up on September 20 to get their new iPhones.

The 1/3 Scale Retro Tribute to Apple’s Original...
Check out John Leake's mini Mac, a 1/3 scale working computer that looks like the original Macintosh and runs Mac OS via the vMac emulator (on an SD card, no less). Mr. Leake built the case by hand from Sintra Board using an X-Acto knife, and he included an HDMI out, two USB ports, and an Ethernet cable on the back of the thing. It's powered by the Raspberry Pi Linux boardJohn Leake is the co-host of the RetroMacCast podcast, and he posted several pictures of the completed project on that site. The attention to detail is amazing, and I salute Mr. Leake for the ability and tenacity to make something so incredibly cool.

Logitech Unveils the ‘Ultrathin Touch Mouse T631’
Logitech has introduced the "Ultrathin Touch Mouse T631," a slim mouse with some great lines. The top of the device is a touch surface that works like a trackpad with multitouch gesture control. Cool, eh? It's a Bluetooth mouse that also lets you connect to multiple devices at once, and to toggle between which device you are actively controlling. That will be handy for some folks. Lastly, Logitech is touting a "Quick Charge" ability where just one minute of charging gives you an hour of use. That's definitely cool. It's priced at US$69.99 for preorder, with free shipping. The video below has a touch more marketing speak than I'll usually feature in a Cool Stuff Found, but there are some good product shots and useful information in it, too.

iPads in Apple’s September iPhone Media Event Feels...
So far the idea that Apple will stick with just the iPhone at its September 10 media event has been pretty much a given, and that new iPads will be introduced in early October. Now an insider source is saying that the new iPhone models will share the stage with updates iPads, too, and that more products designed to take on Samsung are in the works. Upgrade Pricing: The Mac App Store’s Achilles Heal
Developers are resourceful people, and when presented with a problem that seems unsolvable they'll work even harder to find a solution. Their new tool, called OmniKeyMaster, lets users who buy Omni apps through the Mac App Store take advantage of upgrade pricing, but there is a tradeoff. It also shows Apple still has some work to do before the Mac App Store is a perfect solution for developers.
