Japanware.com E-Business Service to Protect International Brands in Japan

NEW SERVICE GIVES NON-JAPANESE COMPANIES STRATEGIC ADVANTAGE TO GAINING
JAPAN DOMAIN NAMES AND FIRST JAPANESE WEB PRESENCE

January 8, 2001. Beaverton, OR. Japanware.com, a new brand of internet
business and marketing services targeting penetration and expansion into
the Japanese B2B and B2C marketplaces became available today. Japanware.com
provides non-Japanese corporations with cost effective, time saving
solutions to registering difficult to acquire Japanese domains, as well as
launching e-commerce sites targeting Japanese customers.

The Japanware.com line of services are a response to the deregulation in
Japan of domain name management. Only Japanese companies and foreign
subsidiaries may acquire Japanese domain names ending in “.co.jp”, the
designation for Japanese corporate domains. Through the end of year 2000,
Japanese corporations have been limited to having only a single domain per
corporation. In 2001, those policies will be relaxed, allowing Japanese
companies to acquire any number of domain names. Analysts anticipate a
frenzied domain name grab similar to that experienced under the .com, .net
and .org domains.

Japanware.com is collaboration between Proactive International, LLC of
Beaverton, Oregon, and Digital Point, Inc. of Tokyo, Japan. Proactive
International, the Worldwide Channel Agency, is a leader in channel
creation and expansion in Japan in the software industry. Digital Point,
Inc. is a Japanese e-solutions and infrastructure developer. The new
service combines business license handling, local representation and web
site hosting.

“Companies are investing huge amounts of money in their brands and
corporate identities. These non Japanese companies run a high risk of
having their brands and names incorporated into a .co.jp domain by Japanese
competitors, being victimized by Japanese domain name hijackers, or just
losing out to Japanese companies that hear a great foreign name and turn it
into a local brand,” said Lynn Fredricks, president of Proactive
International, LLC.

The service also includes options for merchant accounts that use yen or
accepting Japan-only credit cards.

“With almost 20 million wired citizens and 45% of them making online
purchases in year 2000, Japanese merchants are awakening to the
profitability of selling online and securing a recognizable domain name.
The natural assumption of Japanese shoppers is that a Japanese company
provides greater security and assurance of quality service. A Japanese
domain goes a long way to meeting their expectations,” said Hiroshi
Kawasaki, President of Digital Point, Inc.

Japanware.com also offers special naming services to assist companies in
selecting and registering .com, .org and .net domains in native language
Japanese, in response to the those domains being made available by Network
Solutions and Registrars.com.
