Dolly Drive (http://www.dollydrive.com), online backup for Apple’s Time Machine, has announced the opening of its first European data center, giving Mac users throughout Europe faster initial uploads by eliminating Transatlantic data travel during online Time Machine backup and recovery.

The Rome, Italy-based facility is the first Dolly Drive data center outside North America, part of the planned international Dolly grid. Dolly Drive is an all-in-one online backup and local disaster recovery solution for Mac users from cloud-services provider Cirrus Thinking.

“We had such an enormous response from Mac users throughout Europe that one of our top priorities immediately became the creation of a data center on that side of the Atlantic” says Anthony Palermo, CEO of Dolly Drive.

Current Dolly Drive customers in Europe will be contacted individually to have their data migrated to the European data center. New customers are given an option to select their primary data center during the sign-up process.

Dolly Drive is a subscription software and online storage service designed for Apple’s Time Machine. In addition to providing Mac users offsite cloud storage directly through the Time Machine application, the application allows users to create a bootable clone of their Mac on an external hard drive for local disaster recovery. It works with Apple’s Lion and Snow Leopard platforms.
