Apple releases new Mac OS X security update

Apple late Tuesday released Security Update 2005-002, which includes a number of security enhancements for Mac OS X. According to the release notes, the update includes the following components: Java Web Start, JavaPluginCocoa.bundle, JavaScriptCore, and Core Java classes. Apple states that the software “updates Java to address an issue where an untrusted applet could gain elevated privileges and potentially execute arbitrary code.” The update, which requires Mac OS X 10.3.4 or later, is available via the Software Update preference pane or from Apple’s Web site.
