LaCie intros double layer DVD burners

LaCie has announced a line of external drives featuring the new double layer DVD recording technology, which gives users almost twice the capacity of current recordable DVDs on a single-sided disc. LaCie’s d2 DL DVD±RW drives, which will begin shipping next month starting at US$249, also feature the fastest speeds available — 8x DVD±R and 4x DVD±RW. With the d2 DL DVD±RW Drive, users can store and archive as much as four hours of high-quality DVD video, up to 16 hours of VHS video or up to 8.5GB of data, music or photos. The drives, which offer FireWire and USB 2.0 interfaces, ship with Roxio Toast 6.0 Titanium or CaptyDVD 2.0.
