Study: iBook program gets mixed responses

A program intended to save teachers in Sewickley, Penn., time by giving students Apple laptops has gotten mixed results, according to an Associated Press story. Two years ago the Pennsylvania Department of Education chose the Quaker Valley School District for a pilot program that provided 1,800 iBooks to third through 12th graders. Teachers have found the laptops useful in tracking student progress, creating science models, and writing and grading papers. However, a lack of training support from the school district, technical support for malfunctioning computers and forgetful students have cost instructional time, the nonprofit research group Rand Corporation reported. Despite the mixed responses school officials plan to continue the program, according to AP.
