LaCie today announced that it is now shipping the new line of desktop hard drives that support the faster FireWire 800 interface. The new drives, which were announced at Macworld Expo in January, are housed in LaCie’s award-winning d2 design, feature true plug-and-play operation, and offer data-transfer speeds of 800Mbps — two times faster than the 400Mbps of the current implementation of FireWire. The LaCie d2 FireWire 800 hard drive family is available immediately in the following capacities: 200GB 7200RPM/8MB (US$469), 250GB 7200RPM/2MB ($619), 400GB ($859), and 500GB ($1,159).
