Sony today introduced the MPD-AP20U, a portable, battery-operated CD-RW and DVD-ROM drive that doubles as a standalone CD, MP3 and WAV player, when disconnected from a computer. The device offers 24x write and 10x re-write speeds, reads CDs at 24x and DVDs at 8x, and features a Memory Stick media slot, USB connectivity, and comes with software for Mac and PC platforms. The MPD-AP20U drive will be available in November for US$300.
