NetMinder Ethernet Code Red Worm Detection Rule

Neon Software Announces NetMinder Ethernet Code Red Worm Detection Rule

LAFAYETTE, CA – September 17th, 2001 – NetMinder Ethernet, the Ethernet
protocol analyzer from Neon Software, incorporates a new rule for detecting
Code Red Worm probe attempts. Although only Microsoft IIS Web servers are
vulnerable to Code Red Worm infections, network managers are acutely aware
of these attacks due to the sheer volume of incidences. The Code Red Worm
has caused Internet-wide slowdowns and disruptions of network traffic.

Version 4.4 of NetMinder Ethernet’s Packet Inference uses rules-based
technology to automatically detect many types of problems common to
Ethernet networks. Packet Inference analyzes network data based on a set of
pre-programmed rules and provides explanations and conclusions about
unusual conditions it detects.

For a straight-forward discussion of the Code Red Worm, the indicators of a
Code Red Worm infection and recommendations on precautions to take to
prevent infection, Neon Software has published an overview webpage:

Packet Inference 4.4 for NetMinder Ethernet 4.x owners is available as a
