Intel preps 802.11a products

Intel plans to ship 802.11a-based wireless products in November, reports c|net. 802.11a supports transfer speeds of up to 54Mbps, compared with 11Mbps for 802.11b (AirPort). The two technologies are not compatible, however, and there have been conflicting reports as to whether 802.11a’s range can match that of 802.11b. Analysts, however, see 802.11a as being more than a year away from wide-spread use.
