MACROMEDIA INTRODUCES DREAMWEAVER 1.2

Leading Visual Web Authoring Tool Now Compatible with 3.0 and 4.0 Browsers
to Deliver High-Impact Web Pages over Low-Bandwidth Internet Connections

San Francisco, Calif. — April 21, 1998 — Macromedia (NASDAQ: MACR) today
announced a new release of Dreamweaver, the leading visual tool for
professional Web site design. Dreamweaver 1.2 enables web developers to
deploy high-impact web pages over low-bandwidth Internet connections that
take advantage of advanced Dynamic HTML features for users of 4.0 browsers,
while maintaining compatibility with 3.0 browsers. This new release also
includes several new enhancements that improve web developer productivity
and enhance ease of use.

Macromedia also today announced that the recommended retail price of
Dreamweaver 1.2 will remain at $299 US, the same as the introductory price
for Dreamweaver 1.0. A 30-day trial version of Dreamweaver 1.2 is now
available for download at no charge at http://www.dreamweaver.com. All
current Dreamweaver 1.0 customers can download a free Dreamweaver 1.2
updater from http://www.dreamweaver.com.

“Web developers have rapidly adopted Dreamweaver because of its advanced
support for visual web authoring, without compromising flexibility or
control over HTML source code,” said Kevin Lynch, vice president and
general manager, Internet and Multimedia Authoring at Macromedia. “The new
enhancements in Dreamweaver 1.2 build on that success, continuing to lead
the way as the most practical and powerful tool for professional web
developers.”

New Features in Dreamweaver 1.2

The new features in Dreamweaver 1.2 include:

* 3.0 and 4.0 Browser Compatibility – Now web designers can create pages
that incorporate advanced Dynamic HTML features – such as layers and
cascading style sheets – for users with 4.0 browsers, while ensuring
compatibility for users with 3.0 browsers. By using the Convert to 3.0
Browser command, the page will be compatible with 3.0 browsers, while
allowing users with newer browsers to experience Dynamic HTML. Dreamweaver
1.2 also includes a behavior to automatically send viewers to the page
optimized for their particular browser.

* Site Management – Users can now check for broken or external links within
pages, directories, or the entire web site. A single update fixes all
references to any orphaned files. Customers using Dreamweaver from behind a
firewall can now take advantage of Dreamweaver’s extensive FTP
functionality.

* Integration with Leading Web Development Tools – Dreamweaver 1.2 allows
web developers to edit images by launching their familiar image-editing
tool, such as Macromedia Fireworks* or Adobe PhotoShop, from Dreamweaver.

* New JavaScript Behaviors – Dreamweaver 1.2 includes an enhanced library
of JavaScript behaviors. In addition to rollover effects, form validation,
drag and drop, image swapping and Shockwave controls, Dreamweaver 1.2 now
also includes new behaviors such as check browser, drag and drop layers and
pre-load images. Users can also easily create new behaviors and configure
them in the customizable behaviors palette.

* Advanced Interactivity – Using the new Drag Layer feature, web developers
can now assign properties to specific layers without coding, enabling them
to create engaging, interactive pages. Dreamweaver 1.2 also includes a new
Graphical Resize feature, allowing users to select and resize images and
other elements directly on the page.

* International Authoring -Dreamweaver 1.2 is now double-byte enabled,
users can configure fixed and proportional fonts to support the Japanese,
Korean and Chinese character sets.

“Dreamweaver is the first professional level visual HTML editor I would
consider using,” said HotWired design engineer, Taylor. “It takes much of
the work out of writing cross-platform Dynamic HTML, so I don’t have to
worry about how to get it to work in both Netscape Navigator and Microsoft
Internet Explorer. Dreamweaver trusts that I know what I’m doing with my
HTML, so I can trust it.”

Integration with Other Macromedia Products

The newest release of Dreamweaver is functionally integrated to operate
smoothly with Macromedia’s other leading graphics and design tools. The new
integration with Fireworks, Macromedia’s next-generation tool for the
creation and production of Web graphics, enables users to edit images from
within Fireworks while automatically updating changes in Dreamweaver.
Dreamweaver is also integrated with Macromedia’s Flash*, the web standard
for vector-based graphics and animation, and Macromedia’s Director*,
creator of Shockwave* experiences. Together, these products provide a
comprehensive solution for creating and maintaining engaging, interactive
web sites.

About Macromedia’s Dreamweaver

Dreamweaver is the only visual web authoring tool to provide Roundtrip
HTML, giving web developers the productivity benefits of visual editing
without losing control over HTML source code. Dreamweaver automatically
generates high-quality HTML source code from visual functions, while
maintaining the integrity of HTML source imported from other text editors.
Dreamweaver’s extensive support for Dynamic HTML lets users add layers,

JavaScript.

Since its initial beta release in October 1997, Dreamweaver has received
rave reviews from Web designers, corporate customers and the media. The
product has stirred a great deal of industry excitement, generating more
than 200,000 downloads from Macromedia’s Dreamweaver Web site,
