MACROMEDIA AND ALLAIRE ANNOUNCE NEW COLD FUSION OBJECTS FOR DREAMWEAVER

Integration Gives Web Developers New Tools To Create Transactive Content
Applications

San Francisco, Calif. and Cambridge, Mass. — August 18, 1998 —
Macromedia (NASDAQ: MACR) and Allaire Corporation today announced an
enhanced level of integration between Macromedia Dreamweaver and Allaire
Cold Fusion through a new set of Cold Fusion objects for Dreamweaver. The
new objects allow Dreamweaver users to incorporate dynamic data into their
Web sites and build Web applications without complicated programming. The
new Cold Fusion objects for Dreamweaver will be available this month as a
free download from the Dreamweaver Web site at http://www.dreamweaver.com,
and the Allaire Web site at http://www.allaire.com.

The new Cold Fusion objects for Dreamweaver extend the Dreamweaver
environment to support the creation of database-driven Web pages and Web
applications delivered with Cold Fusion Application Server. Utilizing the
robust extensible architecture in Dreamweaver 1.2, the new objects support
integration with database servers and e-mail servers as well as control
over dynamic page generation. With these objects, Web developers can
easily combine the award-winning Dreamweaver Web authoring capabilities
with the high performance application deployment services of Cold Fusion to
create interactive Web sites for everything from content publishing to
e-commerce.

“Dreamweaver and Cold Fusion are a powerful combination for data-based Web
page generation,” said Andrew Wadsworth, Director of the Web Technology
Group, University of Illinois. “Dreamweaver uniquely provides advanced
support for visual Web authoring, without compromising flexibility or
control over HTML source code. The new integration with Allaire’s Cold
Fusion will significantly reduce the time it takes for me to add dynamic
data to my Web site.”

Cold Fusion provides a complete platform for deploying scalable Web
applications that integrate with database servers, messaging systems,
online payment, and other enterprise systems. Web developers create cold
Fusion applications by writing pages that include HTML and a tag-based
server scripting language, the Cold Fusion Markup Language (CFML). These
pages are pre-processed by Cold Fusion Application Server which dynamically
returns HTML. The Cold Fusion objects for Dreamweaver give developers the
ability to quickly and easily create database-driven pages and Web
applications using HTML and CFML in the Dreamweaver authoring environment.

“Our partnership with Macromedia is significant since it provides Allaire
additional exposure in the Web authoring market, where Dreamweaver has
clearly captured the imagination of users who want to maintain control over
their HTML source code,” said Adam Berrey, director of Cold Fusion product
marketing for Allaire. “Cold Fusion was designed to give Web developers the
technology to build and deploy advanced Web applications. Now, by
extending Dreamweaver to support Cold Fusion development, Allaire and
Macromedia are giving Web designers and professional HTML authors the
ability to go beyond static content creation to deliver truly data-driven,
interactive sites.”

“It’s becoming increasingly important for Web designers to quickly and
easily create database-driven Web sites,” said Kevin Lynch, vice president
and general manager, Web publishing tools division at Macromedia. “We
recently announced Macromedia Generator, the first tools to enable
data-driven Web graphics production. Now, with these Cold Fusion objects
for Dreamweaver, it’s easy to add drag and drop functionality to generate
the code to interact with applications servers, and will be much easier for
Dreamweaver developers to add their Cold Fusion functions to their Web
designs. Because of Roundtrip HTML, Dreamweaver users can add proprietary
and server-specific tags to their Web designs in Dreamweaver, and be
confident that Dreamweaver will not destroy the syntax of the code.”
