Wired’s Leander Kahney has once again written an article delving into the wild and wonderful world of Macintosh enthusiasts. The latest column compares the affection Mac users hold for their computers to that of a religion, more or less. Several “experts” are quoted in the report, bringing the love of Macintosh computers to nearly an idol status and Apple CEO Steve Jobs to that of a deity. Here’s an idea… maybe Mac users just prefer using the Mac OS over other computing platforms. Imagine that.

Apple: “It’s all about the brand”

Wired’s Leander Kahney has written an article about Apple’s powerful advertising and marketing. The article argues that the reason Mac users are so loyal is because of Apple’s brand — not its products. “It’s like having a good friend,” said marketer and author Marc Gobe. “That’s what’s interesting about this brand. Somewhere they have created this really humanistic, beyond-business relationship with users and created a cult-like relationship with their brand. It’s a big tribe, everyone is one of them.

Student filmakers in Maine

In an article posted on Wired today, Katie Dean reports on seventh-graders in Maine using iBooks and iMacs to write screenplays. The students are also using digital video cameras and Apple’s iMovie to make their own films. The new additions to the classroom are due to Governor Angus King’s initiative to bring iBooks to every seventh-grader in Maine.

Wired reports on Mac “Shrine”

Wired’s Leander Kahney has written an article about Brazilian-born photographer Caesar Lima, who runs a digital imaging studio (Caesar Photo Design) in Los Angeles. Over the years Lima has owned a wide variety of different Macintosh systems, and now displays them prominently in his studio for all to see. Included in the collection is everything from the Lisa to the Cube and various models in between. “My clients love it,” said Lima in the report.
