A handful of MacMinute readers report receiving shipping notices for Mac OS X 10.4 Tiger from the online Apple Store and MacMall. Two readers even informed us that they’ve already received their ordered copy of Tiger, a week before the update will be rolled out officially. Those that have received shipment confirmation are reporting expected delivery dates of early next week. Mac OS X 10.4 Tiger will go on sale at special events at Apple retail stores and Authorized Apple Resellers across the U.S. on Friday, April 29.

eWeek: Tiger on track for mid-April release

Mac OS X 10.4 Tiger is “proceeding on schedule, as Apple has dropped the prerelease tag from the latest build of the operating system, indicating that it has moved to final candidate stage,” reports eWeek. “It is understood that Build 8A425 was distributed both internally and to selected key developers last Tuesday, and unless major new issues are discovered it will be the last significant milestone before the product goes gold master.

Amazon offers $35 rebate on Mac OS X 10.4 Tiger [updated]

Amazon.com is offering a US$35 mail-in rebate on Mac OS X 10.4 Tiger, the next major version of Apple’s powerful operating system. Amazon is selling Tiger for $129.99, so the price will be $94.99 after rebate (including free shipping). The offer is valid until May 31, 2005. Mac OS X Tiger coming next month?

Apple is set to launch Mac OS X 10.4 Tiger by mid-April, according to eWeek. The next major version of Apple’s powerful operating system will introduce several innovative features. “Sources told eWeek that Apple plans to make copies of Tiger available in its own retail stores as well as through independent dealers by April 15, with the official announcement of the product coming earlier in the month.” Read More

Keynote notes: Jobs shows off Tiger

– During his keynote speech at Macworld Conference & Expo this morning, Apple CEO Steve Jobs highlighted and demonstrated a handful of Mac OS X 10.4 Tiger’s new features, including Spotlight, Mail, QuickTime 7, Dashboard, and iChat. Unfortunately, Jobs did not offer a specific release date, only reiterating that Tiger will ship in the first half of 2005, but “long before Longhorn.”
