Sonicblue said in a press release on Friday that it plans to file for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection and that it has agreed to sell the assets of its Rio MP3 player and ReplayTV digital recorder businesses. The company will sell the two units to D&M Holdings of Japan for US$40 million, plus the assumption of about $5 million in liabilities.

SONICblue today introduced its latest additions to the Rio line of portable digital music players, the Rio S50 and S35S sport player. Both players support MP3 and WMA formats, and offer 128MB of built in memory (upgradeable to 256MB), a backlit screen, a clock and stopwatch, an integrated FM tuner, and Mac and PC compatibility. The S50 also features a carrying case and a battery life of up to 35 hours.

Both players support MP3 and WMA formats, and offer 64MB of memory (upgradeable to 192MB), a backlit screen, a clock and stopwatch. The S10 also features a carrying case and a battery life of up to 35 hours. The S30S is targeted at the sports enthusiast, and features an integrated FM tuner, and an adjustable armband.
