SmartDisk expands FireLite portable hard drive line

SmartDisk today introduced three new versions of its popular FireLite line of portable hard drives — the FireWire 800 FireLite 80GB, the FireWire FireLite 100GB and the USB FireLite 100GB. Featuring a silver-colored magnesium casing, the FireLite drives are palm-sized and weigh about six ounces. Capacities include 40GB, 60GB, 80GB and 100GB versions. They are “Mass Storage Class” peripherals, requiring no driver installation when used with operating systems like Mac OS X, Mac OS 9, Windows XP and Windows Me. Pricing was not announced.

SmartDisk scanners available at Ritz Camera Centers

SmartDisk today announced that its two new Mac- and Windows-compatible film scanners are now available at Ritz Camera Center’s top 200 stores in the United States. The company’s SmartScan scanners convert film strips, negatives, and mounted slides into high-resolution digital images. In addition to the new SmartScan scanners, Ritz also carries the SmartDisk USB Universal Reader and Flash Media Readers.

For notebook users, SmartDisk offers a powered 3-port Cardbus card that slides into any PCMCIA Cardbus slot, allowing for the addition of FireWire. SmartDisk’s FireWire PCI Card features 3 external 6-pin FireWire ports.
