As part of it Macworld Expo announcement today about demonstrating its products at the event, it makes mention that two of its utilities are now available as standalone products. Previously only available as components of Toast 7, CD Spin Doctor (US$39.95) and Motion Pictures HD ($39.95) can now be purchased separately to accomplish a specific creative tasks.

Roxio and Sonic Solutions today announced a definitive agreement for Sonic to acquire the consumer software division of Roxio for a total purchase price of US$80 million. Under the terms of the transaction, Roxio will receive $70 million in cash and shares of Sonic common stock valued at $10 million. Roxio plans to focus its business on the digital music market and will change its corporate name to Napster and trade under the ticker “NAPS” on NASDAQ.

Roxio today announced that it is now shipping Toast with Jam 6, the new version of its popular CD and DVD burning software, enhanced with studio quality audio tools. Roxio shares rose 25 percent Wednesday after the company announced a partnership with Samsung on a new portable digital music player for Roxio’s upcoming relaunch of Napster. As of market close Wednesday, Roxio’s shares were up US$2.09, or 25%, to $10.46 on volume of 3.1 million shares, compared with average daily volume of 707,964 shares.

VersionTracker reports that Roxio has released Toast Titanium 5.2.1, an update to the company’s popular CD and DVD burning software. The new version adds a CDDB2 submit function, fixes Toast online help formatting issues with the Mac OS X 10.2 (Jaguar) help system, and improves compatibility of VideoCD export with iMovie 3.

Roxio has announced the completion of its acquisition of what amounts to basically all of the assets of Napster, the legally-challenged online music trading service. As part of the deal, Roxio has received all of Napster’s intellectual property, including but not limited to the name, trademarks, domain name, and their extensive technology portfolio, but none of the company’s pending liabilities or litigation.

Roxio, creators of the popular Toast CD authoring software, today announced that it will acquire the assests of Napster, the former file-sharing company, for US$5.3 million in cash and stock. Roxio will receive all of Napster’s intellectual property including its technology patent portfolio, but will not be assuming any of Napster’s liabilities, including pending litigation.

As expected, Roxio announced today that Toast 5.2 Titanium is now shipping to retailers worldwide, while updates for existing Toast 5.0 Titanium customers are available from the company’s Web site.

Roxio has told MacMinute that it will release Toast 5.2 Titanium, an update to the company’s popular CD and DVD burning software, on October 2. The free update will add Mac OS X 10.2 compatibility, support for writing CD-Text, burning speeds up to 52x, and improves the color, contrast and encoding performance on VideoCDs. Toast Titanium is available for Mac OS 9.1 or higher and Mac OS X, priced at US$99.95.
