Mozilla, Safari global usage share increases

OneStat.com reports that the global usage share of Mozilla’s Web browsers has jumped from 2.1 pecent to 7.35 percent since May, with Firefox accounting for 4.58 percent of Mozilla’s share. According to the Web researcher, Microsoft’s Internet Explorer is down 5 percent to 88.9 percent. Meanwhile, usage of Apple’s Safari Web browser has climbed from 0.71 to 0.91 since May.

Mozilla Firefox, Thunderbird updated

Mozilla.org has released Firefox 0.8 (formerly Firebird), the latest version of its lightweight Web browser for Mac OS X. The update offers a new download manager; improvements to bookmarks handling; improved handling of extensions; and a new default theme for OS X users. Mozilla has also updated its Thunderbird e-mail client.

Mozilla updated to version 1.6

Mozilla.org has released Mozilla 1.6, a new version of its open-source Web-browser, e-mail and newsgroup client. The updated version offers several enhancements to Mail, including an option to separate the Recipient and Sender columns in the thread pane, a preference for placing the user’s signature above the quoted text, vCard support, and a “Remove from server after x days” option for POP3 accounts. Mozilla 1.6 also includes a new cross-platform NTLM authentication mechanism.

Mozilla, Firebird, Thunderbird get updates

The Mozilla Organization has released updates to Mozilla, Firebird and Thunderbird. Mozilla 1.5, the latest version of the popular open-source Web application suite, offers several improvements to MailNews and Composer, enhanced tabbed browsing, as well as the usual “improved performance, stability, standards support and Web compatibility.” Firebird 0.7 is the new version of the lightweight Web browser.

Mozilla Foundation to lead open-source browser efforts

Mozilla.org today announced the launch of a new foundation that will “continue to promote the development, distribution and adoption of the award-winning Mozilla standards-based Web applications and core technologies, including the Gecko browser layout engine.” The Mozilla Foundation will continue and expand on the efforts of Mozilla.org, the group managing the daily operations of the Mozilla project.

New Mozilla beta posted

The Mozilla Organization has posted Mozilla 1.4b, the latest beta release of the popular open-source Web browser. Version 1.4b offers users the ability to specify default font, size and color for HTML mail compose, image blocking/disabling is now more flexible and users can “view image” to see blocked or not loaded images, CRAM-MD5 and DIGEST-MD5 AUTH support, and more.
