Apple today announced enhancements to its Mac mini line, with 512MB of memory standard in every model and prices starting at US$499. The Mac mini also features built-in wireless networking with AirPort Extreme and Bluetooth starting at $599, and the ability to burn DVDs with a SuperDrive for $699. Tom Gromak of the Detroit News says Apple’s Mac mini is a great alternative to low-cost PCs. “Hardly a week goes by that I don’t get asked the same question at least once or twice: ‘I need a computer, but don’t want to spend a lot of money. What do you recommend?’ Until a few weeks ago, my pat answer was to send those folks clicking through the Dell Web site, looking for the basic Inspiron series of PCs. Not any more. Apple begins shipping Mac mini

MacMinute readers are reporting that Apple has begun shipping Mac mini orders from the company’s online store. The Mac mini, which was introduced at Macworld Conference & Expo last week, will be made available in Apple’s retail stores this Saturday. The low-cost Mac mini comes with either a 1.25GHz ($499) or 1.42GHz ($599) G4 processor, ATI Radeon 9200 graphic card, and either a 40GB or 80GB hard drive.
