BusinessWeek has profiled Apple CEO Steve Jobs this week in the magazine’s greatest innovators of the past 75 years series. “More than anyone else, he brought digital technology to the masses. As a visionary, he saw that computers could be much more than drab productivity tools. Instead, they could help unleash human creativity and sheer enjoyment. A marketing genius, he conceived of elegant products that captured consumers’ imaginations.

Apple the most innovative company in past 75 years

Apple is viewed as the most innovative company of the past 75 years, according to a recent survey conducted by BusinessWeek. Apple, which received 35% of votes, was followed closely by Microsoft with 32%, and Pixar with 31%. Microsoft chairman Bill Gates (50%) did, however, beat out Apple CEO Steve Jobs (47%) as the most innovative CEO. More than half named the personal computer (56%) and the Internet (51%) as the greatest innovations.

O’Reilly announces OS X Innovators Contest winners

O’Reilly announced the winners of the third and final round of its Mac OS X Innovators Contest at the O’Reilly Mac OS X Conference today. The contest, sponsored by the Apple Developer Connection (ADC), rewards “innovative Mac OS X applications, plug-ins, user interface widgets, or other creative original software.” In the International category, iStopMotion took top honors, while ACSLogo claimed second place.
