Apple gives iMacs a speed bump, USB 2.0 support

Apple today announced significant enhancements to its line of iMac desktop computers, including faster PowerPC G4 processors running up to 1.25 GHz, faster 333 MHz DDR memory, faster NVIDIA graphics and the move to the faster USB 2.0 standard. The new iMacs offer faster PowerPC G4 processors running at 1.0 GHz in the 15-inch model and 1.25 GHz in the 17-inch model. Both models include 256MB of faster DDR SDRAM running at 333 MHz and an 80GB Ultra ATA/100 hard disk drive.

Arizona school district to equip teachers with iMacs

Teachers and principals from the Yuma, Arizona school district will be greeted with new flat-panel iMacs when they return for school next month. The district acquired 700 iMacs through a lease program with Apple, according to a Yuma Sun article. “We ended up saving about $200,000 on the deal and the beauty of the lease is that we can just turn the computers in for new ones when the lease is up,” said Darwin Stiffler, director of professional development for the district.

Apple unveils new iMacs, lowers eMac pricing

Apple today announced a new Spring line of iMacs, including a new 17-inch widescreen model featuring a 1 GHz PowerPC G4 processor and 133 MHz system bus; 256MB of Double Data Rate (DDR) memory; a faster 4x SuperDrive for playing and burning CDs and DVDs; and internal support for AirPort Extreme and Bluetooth, for US$1,799. The new 15-inch flat panel model features an 800 MHz G4 processor and is now priced at $1,299.
