Best iMac deals this month
Macworld Finally, 30 months after Apple announced the 24-inch iMac in a collection of seven different colors and powered by Apple’s M1 Chip in April 2021, Apple has updated the iMac with an M3 chip. The 2023 iMac, which was announced in October 2023 and went on sale in November, is a leap up from the 2021 iMac, although not much else has changed. Read about the 2023 iMac and our review of the 2023 M3 iMac. Apple discontinued the 27-inch iMac in March 2022, but it is rumored that a new iMac Pro could be in the pipeline. If that is the Mac you are interested in you may be in for a long wait though, with the larger iMac not expected until late 2024 or 2025. Alternatively, you may be interested in Apple’s high-power desktop, the Mac Studio, see our Best Mac Studio deals. The Mac mini with M2 Pro is another good option, see Best Mac mini deals. With the arrival of the M3 iMac the M1 iMac will no longer be sold by Apple, but you may find those older models available at a discount from resellers while they try to sell off old stock. Note that while the prices remain the same, the M1 iMac did have a price increase outside the U.S. a year after launch, so the savings may not be as good as they appear to be. The Mac listed by the reseller may be an older model than the one Apple currently sells. Macworld Apple announced Mac mini models with M2 and a brand new Mac mini with M2 Pro back in January 2023. Since the standard model already has a low price we don’t tend to see huge discounts. Best MacBook Pro deals this month
Macworld Apple announced new 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro models with M3, M3 Pro and M3 Max chips at an event on October 30. The upgraded MacBook Pro models arrived less than a year after Apple launched the M2 Pro and M2 Max variants of the 14- and 16-inch MacBook Pro (in January 2023). The late-2023 MacBook Pro update also marks the demise of the 13-inch MacBook Pro, which has been replaced by a 14-inch model with the standard M3 chip, unfortunately at a higher price than the discontinued model. If you want to buy a MacBook Pro you will be able to save money if you choose one of the M2-series models, which will now be discounted by resellers as they sell off the discontinued stock. Popular Mac App Bartender's New Owner Has Burnt Years of Good-Will With a Lack of Transparency
An anonymous reader shares a report: Popular app Bartender was quietly bought, and a shady certificate replacement, insertion of invasive telemetry, and a lack of transparent responses by the new owners has shaken confidence in the Mac community. Menu bar organization tool Bartender has been around for a long time. For most of its life, it had an excellent reputation, and a responsive developer who communicated clearly with users. That appears to have changed, recently. It all started with a quiet pair of app certificate shifts which went mostly unnoticed. That is, until app monitoring service MacUpdater found out, and started asking questions. They posted a warning about the app, saying that "The company and developer behind Bartender was replaced in a silent and dubious matter." But, there's a lot more to the story than just that warning. CoreCode, the developer of MacUpdater, did a great deal of research on the new owners and the app situation prior to posting the warning. They detailed their discoveries in a Reddit thread on the matter. Research performed before the warning pointed out that blog entries on the Bartender website shifted to heavily search engine optimized content.
