Apple has added a retail store page for its Albany, New York, store at Crossgates, which is slated to open Saturday, October 13 (as noted last night). The Germantown, Tennessee, store is also scheduled to open on the 13th, while the Palo Alto, California, store will open this Saturday. Finally, Apple is offering 128MB of RAM for free with the purchase of any Mac from an Apple retail store through October 31.

Over 35 million PCs shipped with FireWire ports in 2000, with that number expected to rise to over 200 million by 2005, according to a new report from Cashners In-Stat Group. The report also found that the number of FireWire devices grew by 192 percent from 1999 to 2000, with much of that gain attributed to PC devices. But the report expects that FireWire-equipped digital consumer electronic devices will overtake PC devices in 2001.

Macworld UK notes that Quark has released a public beta of QuarkXPress 5.0 Passport Edition, the International version of QuarkXPress 5.0. The release support 11 languages, including English, Italian, and French. In September, Quark released the public beta of QuarkXPress 5.0 to US customers.

ATI Technologies, which supplies the graphics chips for most Apple systems, this morning reported an adjusted profit of US$2.2 million for its fourth quarter (unadjusted, the company posted a net loss of $45.2 million). Revenues for the quarter came in at $229.1 million, a 6.7 percent decline from the previous year. For fiscal 2001, ATI posted an adjusted net loss of $16.3 million ($54.2 million unadjusted) as revenues declined 19.1 percent to $1.04 billion.
