QDEA RELEASES SPEEDSHARE PRO FOR MACINTOSH
Product sets new Performance Levels for Internet and LAN File Sharing

MINNEAPOLIS, MN (July 21, 1998). Qdea announced today the release of
SpeedShare Pro for Macintosh, a file sharing utility for the Internet and
local area networks that the company claims will transfer files across
networks faster than any other commercially available solution.

Speedshare Pro is an enhanced version of the company’s popular SpeedShare
product which utilizes the TCP/IP Internet protocol to provide
high-performance access to files resident on Macintosh servers across both
local area and Internet networks. The product works in the background, so
users can perform other tasks while file transfers are taking place.

In addition to providing cost effective Internet access to servers,
Speedshare Pro is believed to be the fastest file transfer utility
available. Qdea President Hugh Sontag remarked, “We are very excited at the
performance characteristics of this product. SpeedShare Pro has been
measured in excess of 8.4 MB/sec over 100 base T. In this environment a 1
GByte file transferred in only two minutes.* As a comparison, AppleShare IP
was less than half as fast.”

SpeedShare Pro supports Internet file access for large numbers of
simultaneous users, optionally providing each user with a separate folder
for upload and download. The product uses a Finder-like interface familiar
to Macintosh users, allowing simple drag and drop copying between folders.
Additional features include automatic pre-compression of files on the
server, the ability to limit connections to certain IP addresses and
real-time messaging between users and the server.

Suggested List Prices for SpeedShare Pro Server starts at $129.95. Client
licenses are free. A free trial version of the software is available on
Qdea’s web site at http://www.Qdea.com.

Qdea is an innovative developer and publisher of file management software,
whose product, Synchronize!, was the first file synchronization product
available for the Macintosh. Its product Synchronize! Pro is used by Apple
Computer and other companies to maintain their websites. Qdea is based in

*Tests on 100 base T were performed between a 233 MHz G3 desktop Mac and a
Power Mac 9600/200. Each Mac was connected to a Fibre Channel RAID disk
array capable of 50+ MB/sec sustained transfer rate. All tests were
performed with no other network traffic.
