Sonic Systems’ SonicWALL Awarded ICSA Firewall Certification

Starting at $495, SonicWALL is first ICSA-certified firewall appliance for
under $4,000

SUNNYVALE, Calif., September 1, 1998 Sonic Systems, Inc., provider of
network technology for small to mid-sized companies, today announced that
it has been awarded ICSA certification for its Internet security appliance,
SonicWALL. At $495, Sonic is the first company to sell an ICSA-certified
firewall appliance for under $4,000, putting Sonic on par with
enterprise-level security vendors at about one-eighth the price. ICSA
certification ensures that SonicWALL, after being subjected to a rigorous
suite of tests intended to expose vulnerabilities to attacks and
intrusions, has been approved by the worldwide authority in security
services.

SonicWALL protects Internet-connected businesses from hackers and
intruders, preventing theft, destruction, and manipulation of critical
business data. SonicWALL also prevents employees from accessing
objectionable Web sites and newsgroups through content filtering.
Additional features include logging and reporting as well as IP address
management. Most currently available firewalls are software-based and
require NT or UNIX host systems, whereas SonicWALL is a “black-box
solution” requiring no additional hardware or software to operate. This
makes the product ideal for smaller organizations requiring a secure,
affordable, and easy-to-administer solution to protect against Internet
intruders.

ICSA Inc. is recognized worldwide as the authority in independent security
assurance services. Established in 1989, ICSA has successfully led the
security industry in the development of high quality security products
through product certification programs, and in establishing better security
practices through management of multiple security-focused consortia. ICSA
certifications and security standards are accepted internationally. Visit
the ICSA Web site at (http://www.icsanet.com/)http://www.icsanet.com.

“ICSA is pleased to announce that SonicWALL from Sonic Systems has passed
ICSA Firewall Certification,” said Peter Tippett, president of ICSA.
“Receiving the certified mark tells consumers that a firewall, when
properly configured, can support standard IP business services while
withstanding an extensive suite of hacker attacks (see
http://www.icsa.net/fpfs/fwcert.html). ICSA applauds Sonic Systems for
doing their part to help increase security in the digital world.”

“Most firewalls that are ICSA-certified are targeted toward enterprise
networks because of their high cost and complexity,” said Sonic president
and CEO, Sreekanth Ravi. “Our easy-to-use hardware solution and low-cost
approach enables small to mid-sized business and education customers to
have an ICSA-certified security product at one-eighth the cost.”
