Zero G Ships InstallAnywhere 2 Express

Powerful Java Installer Authoring Tool Delivers Essential Features at
Cost-efficient Price

SAN FRANCISCO, May 11, 1998 – Zero G Software, the upstart company that has
quietly assumed the lead in Java installer authoring tools, today
introduced InstallAnywhere 2 Express, a basic version of the industry’s
most popular installer for Java software. InstallAnywhere 2 Express
incorporates the essentials of the feature set found in the InstallAnywhere
2 Standard Edition but at a fraction of the cost. This new version is ideal
for small, independent yet cost-conscious Java developers who want to
quickly and easily deploy custom software to a limited number of target
users.

“Zero G developed the InstallAnywhere 2 family of products to enable easier
Java installations, thereby letting developers bring their products to
market faster,” said Greg Maletic, founding director and executive vice
president of Zero G. “The new InstallAnywhere 2 Express provides a basic,
easy-to-use tool for Java application developers who don’t need a lot of
customization but want the ability to deploy applications to multiple
platforms. It’s clearly the most powerful tool for building multi-platform
installers in its price range.” (more)

Like the Standard Edition, InstallAnywhere 2 Express allows developers to
shave days or weeks off the overall application development process.
Written entirely in Java, Express makes Java applications double-clickable
and performs automatic Java virtual machine installations without running a
separate installer. Software authors no longer have to build installers for
each platform. InstallAnywhere 2 Express offers simultaneous support for
Windows, Solaris, Mac OS, and other Java platforms and lets developers
build installers that can run over the Internet or from CD-ROM.

Further simplifying the process, Express includes a Project Wizard that
enables installers to be built in six easy steps while automatically
setting the project’s main class and the CLASSPATH. For more sophisticated
modifications to the installer’s capabilities, developers can switch to a
graphical “advanced designer” mode at any time.

For Express customers foreseeing bigger customization needs in the future
and wanting to upgrade to InstallAnywhere 2 Standard Edition, they can look
forward to the following features exclusively available in the Standard
Edition:

* Installation of files to multiple destinations on the target computer

* Powerful rules architecture, allowing installers to install
specific files on particular platforms only, and to compare file dates

* Graphic billboards displayed during install time

* Support for the InstallAnywhere Plug-in architecture.

Price and Availability
InstallAnywhere 2 Express is available now for US $495. The product is
licensed on a per-developer-seat basis, allowing the creation of an
unlimited number of installers for one low price. (more)
