Leading Edge Developers, headlines visionaries and leaders of personal
computing with a unique focus on the Macintosh. The 2000 conference
represents a departure for MacHack.

Reaching beyond the traditional Macintosh community, MacHack is pleased to
announce that Eric S. Raymond, open-source and linux luminary will keynote
the June 22 event.

“We’ve spent years shaming hack authors into giving their source code away
for the benefit of their fellow SmartFriends?,” said Scott Boyd, cofounder
of the MacHax? Group. “We never dreamed that it would make commercial
sense. Eric Raymond is crazy enough to tell the world that it will work.”

Mr. Raymond is an observer-participant anthropologist in the Internet
hacker culture. His research has helped explain the decentralized
open-source model of software development that has proven so effective in
the evolution of the Internet. His own software projects include one of the
Internet’s most widely-used email transport programs. Mr. Raymond is also a
science fiction fan, a musician, an activist for the First and Second
Amendments, and a martial artist with a Black Belt in Tae Kwon Do. His home

The keynote kicks off the MacHack conference at 12:01 AM on Thursday, June
22 and runs into the wee hours of the morning. From there, this legendary
code-a-thon and conference runs continuously for 72 hours. MacHack 2000
will take place June 22-24, 2000, in Dearborn, Michigan. More information

For attendees, discounted registration is available for early action. Full
attendees can register for $425 online, a savings of $100 of the regular
registration rate, students can register for $50 which includes all-access
to the conference as well as a special meal package. Total attendance is
