Apple’s services revenue grows 19%; App Store hits all-time record

Apple has announced financial results for its fiscal 2016 third quarter that ended June 25. The company posted quarterly revenue of $42.4 billion and quarterly net income of $7.8 billion, or $1.42 per diluted share.

These results compare to revenue of $49.6 billion and net income of $10.7 billion, or $1.85 per diluted share, in the year-ago quarter. Gross margin was 38% compared to 39.7% in the year-ago quarter. International sales accounted for 63 percent of the quarter’s revenue.

Bare Bones Software Releases TextWrangler 5.5

Bare Bones Software has released TextWrangler 5.5, an update to its general purpose text editor for Mac OS X.

The upgrade offers performance improvements, refinements to fit and finish, and changes to streamline workflow in specific areas, such as Find Differences. In all, this new version includes more than 250 new features, changes to existing features, and fixes for specific reported issues.

Tower for Mac adds Visual Studio Team Services support

Fournova has announced Tower 2.4 (http://www.git-tower.com), an update to the company’s Git client for Mac.

Tower provides the user with an interface that combines all the important features that Git has to offer. The new version comes with support for Microsoft’s Visual Studio Team Services, as well as Team Foundation Server.

Tower 2.4 is a free upgrade for Tower 2 users. New licenses are available for $79.

SIGGRAPH 2016 brings new Autodesk Design animation

At the SIGGRAPH conference in Anaheim, Aalifornia, Autodesk is showcasing the latest design animation solutions for Maya 2017 and an update to 3ds Max.

Maya 2017 features integrated rendering with Arnold, new motion graphics tools and numerous features and enhancements designed to help artists work faster and easier than ever. Autodesk is also announcing that Solid Angle’s Arnold renderer will support 3ds Max with a plugin called MAXtoA.
