Apple reportedly lays off some Apple Fitness+ employees

Apple laid off a “handful” of Apple Fitness+ employees last week, Bloomberg‘s Mark Gurman says in his latest “Power On” newsletter.

“This is widely seen within the Fitness+ organization as the beginning of more drastic cost-cutting measures and other major changes to the service in the months and years ahead,” he said.

It’s unclear what this means for the service. In February Gurman said that Apple was reconsidering a reorganization of the service and evaluating its future.

Gurman said Fitness+ is one of Apple’s “weakest digital offerings” that generates little revenue. However, it has a loyal fanbase that would result in a “backlash” if the service were ditched, he added.

In February Gurman said the fitness service will be getting new management. Apple health vice president Sumbul Desai will take control of the service. The health division, now including Apple Fitness+, will report directly to Apple’s Senior Vice President of Services Eddy Cue.

Apple Fitness + is a subscription fitness and wellness service that provides thousands of trainer-guided workout and meditation videos.. It costs $9.99 per month or $79.99 annually. It’s also included in the the premium tier of the Apple One subscription.
