Apple TV+ is expanding its European staff

Apple TV+ recently hired Joe Oppenheimer, previously of BBC Films, and is looking for a non-scripted programming commissioner for its European staff, according to Broadcast (a subscription is required to read the article).

Apple TV_ has also added Fiona McDermott, formerly head of comedy at the UK’s channel 4, according to Broadcast. All of this may be to meet European Law requirements. In 2020, it was announced that, in an attempt to level the playing field for European content creators, EU lawmakers are proposing legislation that would require streaming services like Apple TV+ and Netflix to feature 30% European content or face a European Union customer block,
