Apple wants CarPlay to be able to control core car functions

Apple wants to expand CarPlay’s functionality to include controls for core car functions such as the air conditioning system, radio, speedometer, seats, and more, according to Bloomberg.

CarPlay provides a simplified way to use your iPhone interface on a car’s touch screen. It gives users access to Siri voice controls, as well as Apple Maps, Apple Music, Phone, Messages, and a variety of third party apps. It’s available on the iPhone 5 and later running iOS 7.1 or higher.

The report says the work is part of a project codenamed “IronHeart.” It’s in the early stages, but Bloomberg says Apple working with carmakers to expand ‌CarPlay‌’s functionality to control core car functions.
