Find My network support for AirPods Pro, AirPods Max join delayed features of iOS 15

iOS 15 is due today. However, as noted by MacRumors, Apple has updated its iOS 15 features page noting that Find My network support for AirPods Pro and AirPods Max has been delayed until “later this fall.”

What is Find My network support?

The feature, whenever it arrives, will allow help you find lost AirPods Pro or AirPods Max if an ‌iPhone‌, iPad, or Mac comes close to them. The Find My network will be able to relay an approximate location of the headphones securely and privately back to you.

The updated Find My app also allows third-party products to use the private and secure finding capabilities of Apple’s Find My network, which comprises hundreds of millions of Apple devices. With iOS 15, The Find My network accessory program opens up the vast and global Find My network to third-party device manufacturers to build products utilizing the service, so their customers can use the Find My app to locate and keep track of the important items in their lives.

Other delayed features

The Find My network support for AirPods and AirPods Pro is one of the previewed features introduced with iOS 15 that have been delayed until a future update.

Another is SharePlay. Here’s how Apple described SharePlay when it was announced at June’s Worldwide Developer Conference: Users can now share experiences with SharePlay while connecting with friends on FaceTime, including listening to songs together with Apple Music, watching a TV show or movie in sync, or sharing their screen to view apps together. SharePlay works across the iPhone, iPad, and Mac. With shared playback controls, anyone in a SharePlay session can play, pause, or jump ahead.

What’s more, SharePlay extends to Apple TV, so users can watch shows or movies on a big screen while connecting over FaceTime. SharePlay will keep everyone’s playback in sync. Disney+, ESPN+, HBO Max, Hulu, MasterClass, Paramount+, Pluto TV, TikTok, Twitch, and many others are integrating SharePlay into their apps — creating entirely new ways to connect.

Also delayed are the ability to add a driver’s license or state ID to the Wallet app and Legacy Contacts. The latter is the ability to add contacts to pass your “Digital Legacy.” It allows your loved one to request a copy of your data using an Access Key and a copy of the death certificate. Upon verification from Apple, you’ll be able to download the files of the deceased person.
