Review: VEED is a simple, free online video editor

VEED is a simple online video editor that works with macOS, Windows, and mobile devices. I prefer using iMovie, but VEED is extremely simple to use — and it’s free.

Plus, you don’t even have to create an account. Just upload your video (or still picture, if you prefer) and then you can:

° Adjust the size (Original, Square, Landscape, YouTube).

° Set the duration of the video.

° Set the background color.

° Tweak the audio.

° Set the playback speed.

° Add and edit subtitles.

° Translate to and from a variety of languages.

° Adjust various settings for text in headlines, subtitles, and more.

° Add elements such as shapes, emojis, progress bars, sound waves, and logos of famous brands. (You might be careful here, as I suspect copyright issues might arise.)

° Add a variety of filets.

° And even do some elementary drawing.

Despite its simplicity, there was a few things that didn’t feel especially instinctive in use. For example, it took me a while to figure out how to delete the video that VEED includes for practice and replace it with one I imported and wished to work with. And I clicked in subtitle boxes to edit them only to find you should use the control panes at the left of the screen to do this.

Still, the VEED tech support is VERY efficient. And there are tutorials on how to use VEED. Go to the platform’s Help Desk at https://veed.crisp.help/en/. Or you can go to the VEED YouTube channel at https://www.youtube.com/c/VEEDSTUDIO/.
