Apple has been granted a patent (number 11,015,951) for “feature selection in transit mode” that shows that future versions of Apple Maps may point out interesting features along the route you’re taking.
In the patent data, the tech giant notes that, with proliferation of mobile devices such as smartphones, users are taking advantage of mapping and navigation apps that allow them to browse maps and get route directions. However, Apple says that, despite their popularity, “these mapping and navigation applications have yet to introduce a comprehensive and efficient transit routing and navigation system to the market.” The company wants to change this with features such as pointing out potential interesting stops along your journey.
Here’s the summary of the patent: “Some embodiments provide a mapping application that displays a transit map including a group of lines that each corresponds to at least one transit route and, for each line, a set of transit-related features located along the line. The mapping application receives a selection of a transit line and, in response to the selection, modifies the transit map to emphasize the selected transit line and the set of features located along the selected transit line.”
