OWC has announced the Aura SSD for mid-2013 and later Mac laptops (http://tinyurl.com/z4bkcnl). It allows users to expand the stock storage that came with their Mac laptops and reuse their original factory drive to transfer data and as an external storage solution.

Available in 480GB and 1.0TB capacities, Aura SSD upgrade kits are PCIe-based flash storage upgrades available for MacBook Pro with Retina display (late 2013 and newer) and MacBook Air (mid02013 and newer) models. Aura SSD upgrade kits come with Envoy Pro, an enclosure designed to “reimagine your Mac’s original flash drive.”

When the factory-installed flash drive is removed during the upgrade process, it fits into the Envoy Pro enclosure so you can transfer all of your data to the new Aura inside your Mac. Once the file transfer is complete, you can use your Mac’s original flash drive as an external USB drive with transfer speeds up to 355 MB/s.

OWC Aura SSD Upgrade Kits (with all tools and the Enjoy Pro enclosure cost: $399 for the 480GB version and $649 for the 1TB model. The OWC Aura SSD only is $347.99 for the 480GB version and $597.99 for the 1TB model. These are introductory prices, available only for a limited time.
