ComScore: Apple was top U.S. smartphone manufacturer in April

ComScore (www.comscore.com), a digital media analytics firm, says that, as of April, Apple ranked as the top smartphone manufacturer with 43.1% OEM [original equipment manufacturer] market share, while Google Android led as the #1 smartphone platform with 52.2% platform market share. Facebook ranked as the top individual smartphone app.

ComScore says 188.6 million people in the U.S. owned smartphone during the three months ending in April. Apple ranked as the top OEM of U.S. smartphone subscribers (up 1.8 percentage points from January). Samsung ranked second with 28.6% market share, followed by LG with 8.4% (up 0.4 percentage points), Motorola with 4.9% and HTC with 3.7% (up 0.1 percentage points).

Android ranked as the top smartphone platform in April with 52.2% market share. It was followed by Apple with 43.1% (up 1.8 percentage points from January), Microsoft with 3%, BlackBerry with 1.5%, and Symbian with 0.1%.
