Redpark Product Development says it’s shipping the industry’s first Ethernet cable for the iPad and iPhone.

The Redpark Ethernet Cable (http://tinyurl.com/mn8c2nk) is a specialty version of USB to Ethernet adapter. It provides a general purpose ethernet connection — however, throughput is limited to 5 Mbps and only apps which use Redpark’s RedSocket SDK are able to communicate with the cable.

“We’ve designed the Ethernet Cable for use in field service applications,” says Redpark President Mike Ridenhour. “It enables field technicians to use Ethernet to connect an iPad or iPhone to equipment in the field in order to configure or troubleshoot the equipment.”

The Ethernet Cable has a manufacturer’s suggested retail price of US $89 and is available today.
