Kool Tools: the Gum Plus

GumPlus.jpg

If you need to provide your iPhone with some extra juice, you should chew on the Gum Plus (http://www.xtand.net/products/show/productid/9) from Just Mobile.

Not literally, of course. Just chew on the thought of getting one. The Gum Plus is a little charger that looks cool and holds a charge for a long time. It packs e 4,400mAh of power and 1,000mA of output. The gang at Just Mobile say it can charge your iPhone up to four times and juice the Apple smartphone to 90% in an hour. It offers 38 hours of talk time, 90 hours of music or 26 hours of video.

The Gum Plus — which is “Certified for iPhone” — has a solid aluminum enclosure (which has more than a passing resemblance to the MacBook Pro shell), five LED indicators and a button that turns on the battery. It looks great and matches aesthetically with the iPhone. But like many of Apple’s own products, the Gum Plus scratches easily — so use with care.

Connect the Gum Plus to your iPhone, flip the on/off switch, and the juicing begins. A three-level power indicator shows you how much charge is left. Since it connects to the iPhone, the Gum Plus is a bit awkward to use while on the go. It’s better used to charge up your Apple smartphone while it’s sitting around idly.

USB and iPhone cables are included in the box; the USB cable connects to a computer or a wall adapter, if you have one. It costs approximately US$69.99 and comes with a carrying case.
