Apple has acquired the Toronto-based Locationary, a small Canadian startup, reports “AllThingsD” (http://tinyurl.com/mrovmku). Details of the acquisition haven’t been released, but the move is obviously part of the ongoing efforts to improve Apple’s Maps app.

Apple spokesman Steve Dowling confirmed the deal with “AllThingsD” with the company’s usual statement on such matters: “Apple buys smaller technology companies from time to time, and we generally do not discuss our purpose or plans.”
