Need a digital notebook that also allows you to store log-ins and other information securely. Then you need Carnet for Mac OS X from Deliquus. The app users Advanced Encryption Standard with 256-bit keys, which is used by military and government institutions all over the world.

Managing passwords by storing them on the computer securely is problematic for some computer users. However, Carnet offers a user-friendly interface.

You can automatically lock documents when your Mac is inactive. Carnet offers a menu item for fast access, a “hidden” dock icon, unencrypted printing and the ability to organize items in self-made groups

The application has another unique aspect. The developers have chosen to not release the software through Apple. The folks at Deliquus say they didn’t publish the application on the Mac App Store and didn’t code sign the binary.

The developers say they “refuse to obey the monopoly of Apple in software distribution on the operating system,” which is why a workaround is needed for the new Gatekeeper system on Mac OS X 10.7 and higher.

Carnet costs US$19.99 and can be downloaded on the Deliquus online (http://tinyurl.com/bkxtncc). A seven-day trial version is also available. Carnet requires Mac OS X 10.6 or higher.
