Coupons.com, a company that specializes in digital coupons, has announced a new Apple Passbook integration feature that allows shoppers to save coupons from leading national retailers directly to Passbook.

Dozens of coupons are available from top national retail chains, including Barnes & Noble, Macy’s, Michael’s, Old Navy, and PETCO. These coupons are usually clipped out or printed out prior to shopping — now, shoppers simply browse available offers, tap on the coupons they want to save to Passbook and show them on their phone at check out. No app download is needed, and consumers don’t have to pay anything for the capability.

“Passbook is yet another leading example of how digital delivery is all about convenience and on-demand consumer availability,” says Steven Boal, CEO of Coupons.com . “Consumers, retailers and manufacturers are converging on the best user experience across the digital shopping domain, and Coupons.com is leading and unifying the experience across the technical landscape. With the largest number of retailer offers for Apple’s Passbook, Coupons.com is breaking new ground in consumer convenience.”

Users of iOS 6 devices can simply visit www.coupons.com on their mobile device, select the Passbook button, and tap Add to Passbook for the coupons they want. Then, just show the offers in Passbook at the cash register for instant discounts.

Each Passbook “coupon” includes a description of the offer (such as “Save up to 20% on Your Entire Order”), the expiration date, and a scannable barcode. An “information” button at the bottom right corner of the offer provides instructions for cashiers on how to process the coupon (including a numeric code that can be manually typed into the cash register if the barcode isn’t scanning automatically) and additional information (such as purchase requirements).
