A new study by LinkedIn (http://talent.linkedin.com/indemand/) names Apple as the number two most in-demand employers globally. It’s topped only by Google.

Making the top 20 are: Google, Apple, Microsoft, Facebook, Unilever, GE, Pepisco, P&G, McKinsey & Company, Coca-Cola, Walt Disney, Nike, Salesforce.com, Twitter, Exxon, Nestle, BCG, Ogilivy, Expedia and Accenture.

However, when it comes to the most in-demand employers among software engineers, Apple ranks only nine. The top 20 by this classification are: Google, Microsoft, Facebook, Amazon, Accenture, Cisco, Oracle, Twitter, Apple, IBM, Cognizant Technology Solutions, ThoughtWorks, Infosys, Wipro Technologies, HCL Technologies, Adobe, HP, Intel, Red Hat and Motorola Mobility.

Here’s what LinkedIn — a is a social networking website for people in professional occupations — says about the lists: “Out of more than 2 million companies on LinkedIn, these employers are the most InDemand. How did we rank the winners? We analyzed billions of data points between members and companies and compared the data with surveys of thousands of members to determine a company’s familiarity and engagement score. Our analysis also weighted member actions like viewing employee profiles, visiting Company Pages and following companies. We excluded LinkedIn from the rankings for the sake of objectivity.”
