iOS 6 removes YouTube app

The iOS 6 beta 4 ditches the YouTube application that has existed on iOS since the first version in 2007, according to various reports.

“9to5Mac” (www.9to5Mac.com) says: “We’re not entirely sure what to make of this, but this could have to do with Apple trying to break away from dependence on Google services. iOS 6 drops Google Maps in favor of Apple’s own 3D Maps program.”

However, a statement from Apple to “The Verge” (http://macte.ch/bnvkI) says: “Our license to include the YouTube app in iOS has ended, customers can use YouTube in the Safari browser and Google is working on a new YouTube app to be on the App Store.”

Of course, if said app doesn’t arrive, you’ll still be able to watch YouTube videos on the iPhone, iPad and iPod touch. You’ll just have to do it with your web browser.
