According to the latest market share survey from NetMarketShare (http://www.netmarketshare.com), the market share for Mac OS X, Safari and iOS all rose in July.
According to the report, among desktop operating systems, Mac OS X had 6.97% of the global market share in July compared to 6.72% in June (that’s global market share; in the US it’s over 10%). That’s an all time high for Mac OS X. Windows remains dominant with 92.01% as of July. That’s down from 92.23% in June.
When it comes to browsers, Safari had 4.93% in July compared to 4.73% in June. Internet Explorer had 54.93%, Firefox had 20.16% and Chrome had 18.88%. That compares to, respectively, June percentages of 54.02%, 20.06% and 19.08%, respectively, for the browsers. Safari’s all-time high is 5.43% in October 2011.
The iOS’s still dominated in July, according to NetMarketShare. It had 65.274% (an all time high), compared to 20.16% for Android, 9.11% for Java ME, 1.86% for Blackberry, and 1.61% for Symbian. That compares to 65.27%, 19.73%, 10.22%, 1.87% and 1.61%, respectively, in June.
NetMarketShares’ monthly surveys don’t measure market share in terms of computer systems sold. Instead they sample data from visitors to some 40,000 web sites operated by their clients. And note that NetMarketShare’s numbers don’t equate to sales.
