Proview, the Chinese company that sued Apple over the iPad trademark, is now being sued by its own lawyers. The Grandall Law Firm is suing Proview for its 4 percent commission on Apple’s $60 million settlement, about $2.5 million, according to a “Sina Tech” story — as noted by “CNET.”
Proview founder Yang Rongshan characterized Grandall’s lawsuit as “nonsense,” the article adds. He claimed that Proview is not currently under “normal operations” and should not be bound by the terms of its obligation to Grandall.
Earlier this month, Apple paid US$60 million to Proview Technology to end a dispute over the iPad trademark in China. The settlement was mediated by the Higher People’s Court of Guangdong province.
In February Proview accused Apple of “deception” in the way it acquired rights to the iPad name. In Californian court filings, Proview claimed Apple created a UK-registered “special purpose company,” IP Application Development Ltd (IPADL).
